MOSS BOOK II Free Download GAMESPACK.NET After the original’s cliffhanger ending, finally returning to Moss’s storybook world was a wonderful and long-awaited treat. Who wouldn’t want to assist an adorable mouse in VR, helping them take down fearsome bosses and overcome platforming challenges in order to save the world? Moss: Book 2 wastes no time, kicking off moments after the first game’s ending and then building upon much of what made it so memorable, even when the aging PSVR tech its currently confined to can’t quite keep up. While I’d suggest playing Moss first (it’s only a few hours long and very good), Book 2 still manages to be a welcoming sequel for newcomers. Told like a fairy tale, it has you controlling both a mouse named Quill and the human-sized Reader flipping through her story yet again, this time as she’s hunted down by a winged tyrant called Tylan. Like before, this isn’t necessarily the strongest story, but it’s a follow-up that at least improves on other aspects like worldbuilding. TOP/BEST ADULT VIDEO GAMES IN UNITED STATES OF AMERICA (USA)

You’ll learn more about Cinder Night, the event where Arcane forces brought Quill’s kingdom to heel, and there’s an interesting but underdeveloped cast who bear mental scars from that tragedy. Book 2 intrigued me with its late-game revelations and, once again, I found myself wanting more. Developer Polyarc evidently listened to previous criticism, so it at least doesn’t end on a total cliffhanger this time, but there’s definitely space left for a follow up too. Quill’s goal is to find the glass shards she needs to stop Tylan, hopping her way through a ruined castle, a garden conservatory, arctic mountains, a steel foundry, and more to do so. Of course, we all know it’s never that straightforward. You’ll frequently get interrupted by Arcane minions blocking our path, which Quill and the Reader will have to defeat in often drawn-out fight sequences. Book 2 expands the previous roster of mechanical beetle enemies with new foes, like an armored shell variant which can only be cracked open with a special weapon.

Reach into The World of Moss

There’s also an unfortunate creature known as a ripper, who the Reader can fling like a pinball directly. Combat will be quite a familiar scene for anyone who played the original, but Polyarc has expanded Book 2 with a few new options. Previously, Quill only had a sword, but that returning weapon is joined by two new choices: a hammer and a chakram. Your hammer hits hard but is slow and unwieldy like many heavy weapons in other games. As for the chakram, it offers a quick and light approach better suited for taking out weaker enemies in large numbers. Your sword lies somewhere in between. Armored shells and certain late-game bosses aside, combat doesn’t usually necessitate the use of one particular weapon or another, which provides a welcome flexibility that will suit different combat styles. New weapons provide a welcome flexibility to your combat style. Polyarc also factored weapon abilities into platforming too, giving Quill additional powers through alternative means. Holding down the attack button will charge her currently equipped weapon, and then physically moving your controller to touch it will let you activate its special ability as the Reader. For example, the sword lets Quill dash across gaps that a standard jump would never make, slicing up enemies in her path along the way. The chakram can embed into walls, and then be called back like a boomerang to hit otherwise out of reach obstacles. Finally, you can place a mirror image of the Hammer over enemies or a switch, dropping it as the Reader when necessary. I really enjoyed this fusion of platforming and combat. Not only does it elevate combat beyond simply swinging a sword, puzzles also use each ability creatively, so you can’t just rush through and hope for the best. The Reader has their own abilities too, letting you interact with Quill as a separate character in this world – one she’s fully aware of. Your path while controlling Quill is often blocked by puzzles, requiring the Reader’s direct intervention to advance.

Adventure to Fantastic Places

That can be simple tasks like triggering Quill’s special attacks like previously mentioned, or more hands-on jobs like moving blocks and dragging enemies onto switches by using the Dualshock controller’s gyro sensor to point at them. The Reader also has a few fresh abilities, like creating climbable vines in certain spots or dragging others across the screen to create bridges, giving you inventive new methods to overcome these challenges. One of the big improvements to its predecessor is the expansion of the world and environments. The first Moss game was beautiful but was limited to a forest and a castle environment. While the sequel has those too it expands further, taking you to a wide variety of new locations including snowy tundras and lava-filled mines. Some of these new places have wondrous vistas that had me staring in awe for a few seconds. The art direction is truly magical, and every inch of this world is gorgeous to look at. The visuals themselves are simple, yet colourful, and eye-popping with a special attention to detail on its animation and effects work. JUSTICE SUCKS: Tactical Vacuum Action

Every little thing combined together really brings the world to life. As the Reader you will have an external view of each set piece, and are able to peak behind corners (by physically leaning) and under bridges from a static camera position as you guide Quill to the next section of the level. These views feel like looking at a little toy set diorama filled with animated characters coming to life. It never quite gets old, and you never really want to look away. The only downside to the visuals is some aliasing issues due to the low resolution of the headset and the PS4. I won’t hold the game itself responsible too much as I can imagine a higher spec machine like PSVR2 or the various PCVR headsets would produce a much clearer image with a lot more detail. All things considered though, despite being held back by the aged hardware, it is still one of the most beautiful games available on PSVR. Speaking of beauty, another key attention to detail is the incredible animation work.

Form a Unique Bond

Whether Quill is running through long grass or enemies are closing in for an attack, Polyarc has done an outstanding job making everything feel alive. However, Quill is the star of the show and the loving attention to her animations reflect that. Basic actions like scurrying up a cliff or dodging an enemy look flashy, yet realistic. As Quill cannot talk herself, she uses a lot of sign language (at times translated by the narrator) which is incredibly emotive and appreciated giving a spotlight to those in need of accessibility. Even one-off actions have love poured into them, like when you move a platform as the Reader while Quill is on top and a surfing-like animation from Quill initiates as you carry her to her destination. This is in addition to the usual stuff from the first game like patting her or giving her a high five, and it all culminates in fostering a deep connection to the murine hero and the game itself. The sign of a good VR game is forgetting your own limitations. For a short amount of time

You don’t remember that you’re sitting in your lounge or bedroom as you move and reach out to areas in the virtual world, only to find yourself colliding with some nearby furniture. For a platformer where I thought I’d largely be sitting down, I was surprised to find myself on my feet so much. You can’t help but stand to get a better look, re-evaluate a puzzle from another angle, or crouch to peer into a small gap to see if a collectible is hidden away. Sure, I had some janky VR moments where I couldn’t quite achieve what I wanted in the first five or so tries, but I’m well aware that with my constant movement, I was probably often straying out of the optimum camera area needed for tracking purposes. Moss was applauded for its captivating storytelling and the bond players developed with Quill, and Book 2 is even more unforgettable for the very same reasons. Much like the first installment, its story is told through a mixture of flicking through the pages of a book and playing out sections with Quill.

All the while, a narrator puts on the different voices of each character, reminiscent of parents or loved ones telling bedtime stories. If you haven’t played the first game, don’t worry, there’s a recap at the beginning, with this sequel seeing Quill aiming to take down the rest of the Arcane army to save Moss. Any tale that gives me Redwall vibes is an instant win anyway, but I dare you to not be incredibly charmed by this brave little mouse who is so full of character. Small interactions such as seeing her happily dance when she’s won a fight, gesturing to different objects to guide you, or when she beckons you to high-five her, all create a real sense of personality. In a tale of a hero overcoming the Arcane army to save the world, it’s not always happiness and cute little mouse antics. There was a particular part where, as I watched Quill’s body heave as she sobbed her heart out, I couldn’t help but reach out to her. Of course, I couldn’t really help her, because I wasn’t really there, but at that moment, I realised just how emotional I was becoming about this digital creature. Kaiju Princess
