My Spelunky experience is almost nothing, so I am mostly approaching this game with tunnel vision, even though it certainly gives that vibe, very similar format, just with a 2 character gimmick. In short, I think this game is very enjoyable once you get comfortable with the characters and the map awareness, granted it requires some mechanical aptitude and multitasking.

Go It Alone Or Find a Real Human.

No matter what they say, it is definitely a little harder than most rogue-lites, but it has a certain allure and challenge that frankly, most games can’t offer. The game is very playful and has a lot of hidden jokes, many active items, various risk vs reward elements, and just a lot of variety overall. In addition, you can lower and increase difficulty, resume from unlocked worlds, play co-op, versus, and compete on leaderboards. If you are playing alone, you are controlling 2 characters and that just creates a bit of a learning curve, even just a muscle memory with the constant item switching, 8 hours in I still press the wrong buttons, granted, I think the game could perhaps have some features to limit what I want to automatically pick up – I am so tired of having an entire inventory of arrows and bananas. Ironically, they may want an accessible game, but realistically this game requires more attention and practice than just about any platformer out there, plus it’s actually not all that noob friendly, like the game does not hold your hand, even during the easy stages, you can lose all your hearts very quickly. And honestly, props to game for not being easy. Persona 5 Royal Switch NSP

I think you are very much expected to bring some prior experience with the rogue-lites. I thought the platforming controls were just about perfect, with a few nitpicks. The characters can work together with certain moves, in addition to some character-specific perks, and if you carry one character, you can’t do the wall jumps, so it’s a fine balance between exploration, mobility, and safety  I would say very challenging to learn despite having a very friendly look, lots of opportunities to flex and improve, barely any hand-holding, just a very uncompromising rogue-lite. And you can resume from different worlds once you unlock them, but even on the lowest difficulty, the game is reasonably difficult.  I would say it has a lot of personality going for it, very funny, very interactive, lots of variety and jokes with the items, and many unexpected moments.  For the most part, good platforming controls with some space for QOL, but I can overlook some smaller issues.  Decent support for various features and achievements, co-op, difficulty modes, versus, leaderboards, and so on.

No Deja Vu Here!

Nitpicks – the second boss telegraphing is very bad, I know you can just wait out for his weapon attack, but it’s a beginner trap right now, even those bees are a pain in the butt cuz sometimes other sprites hide them. I would like you to speed up the drop animation a bit, so much of this game is me just sorting my inventory because I picked up a bunch of trash, is there no way to disable auto pick-up, I just don’t want to pick up certain items at all. Character Mechanics – let me explain a situation, say I carry the second character right, I get hit in the water by a saw, they get separated and I scramble to figure out the controls, while both characters are in the middle of trap sprites, and as I pick up the character, they get hit again – it feels too frustrating in my opinion, you just get combo killed. Maybe if you carry a character they should just tank the hits. I would like to see the girl’s jump hitbox slightly increased, I can’t tell you how many times I feel like I am about to land on the enemy, but I miss it by 1 pixel. The throwing arc is a little too high, I am okay with the arc, but maybe make it a little less extreme. Overall Thoughts: very good (not rating, still have a lot of content left) . Now I don’t know exactly how it compares to Spelunky in a long run, but it’s a very fun stand-alone game anyway. It does take some practice with the character mechanics so if you don’t like challenging games, it may not be for you. Very playful with a ton of content, I got a lot more than I paid for.  The game throws you straight into the story, with the opening cut scene seeing your character hurtling through space and eventually crashing through the ground of an unknown location. With the human inside the suit out for the count, the suit’s AI, ARID, decides to take over and try and guide herself to safety in order to save her unconscious occupant. With the help of a computer AI, ARID must make her way through the facility she has ended up in, completing numerous tests in order to get to the medical bay and get her pilot some much needed attention. The game’s story is intriguing from start to end, and your interest in ARID and her journey only grows the more time you spend with her. With The Fall only being the first part of a trilogy, the story ends rather quickly and abruptly.

Hilarious Vs Mode.

leaving the gamer with many unanswered questions which will hopefully be answered sooner rather than later in the following two parts of the game. To explore this unknown facility, you will spending a lot of time directing your flashlight at various items and objects around you. This simplistic point-and-click style nature of the game works well against the mystery and intrigue surrounding its story, with different items having significant ways to advance the plot. Shining your light on a item will tell you something about it, or maybe even give you a hint to how it can help you, but ultimately you will be wanting to try and interact with the item in order to pick it up. Picking an item up allows you to keep it in your inventory, which means you will probably need it in order to solve an upcoming puzzle. Luckily, if thinking outside of the box isn’t really your thing, you should be able to solve the majority of the unique puzzles with a trial and error technique. For example, in the first cave area if you pick up all the items along the path that you can, and interact each with everything in the area, you will be able to progress through the level with little trouble.

This figure is Colonel Josephs, a soldier in a generic future army. But the good Colonel is in critical condition, leaving his life in the hands of ARID, the AI controlling Josephs’ suit. Unfortunately, she’s trapped in a decrepit android repair facility, packed with hostile security drones and run by a fantastically creepy caretaker. Her one ally is the facility’s mainframe, who is understandably happy to see a friend after decades of loneliness. The character writing is fantastic. ARID doesn’t know it, but every attempt to save the meatsack trapped inside her suit brings her closer to escaping her restrictive programming. At first, her determination appears to be a result of coding, but as Josephs comes ever closer to expiring, genuine emotion begins to push through her automated facade. Rogue artificial intelligence hasn’t been this compelling since the Portal games. The same goes for the other characters. The caretaker’s job is to designate malfunctioning units, but nothing is safe from its critical eye. Both malfunctioning robots and innocent humans are killed and literally crucified by its hand — a result of overly rigid programming.

The character is brought to life by some delightfully creepy animation and a holographic disguise gone horribly wrong. The mainframe, on the other hand, wants to be closer to humanity in the hopes of being treated fairly. ARID exists in a space between these characters; between rigid adherence to the rules (the caretaker) and simulated humanity (the mainframe). Without spoiling the game’s killer ending, ARID does make something of a decision between the two. It’s also worth noting that The Fall is not technically over, with two more parts supposedly on the way. The ending of Part One brings closure to the game’s themes and ARID’s character arc, so it’s difficult to guess where the game could end. There’s certainly something to be said for exploring characters after a major revelation, so I have faith in the future of The Fall. As long as the writing stays at this level, we’ll be in good hands. If there’s one area where the game could improve, it’s the puzzles. ARID’s suit has a series of abilities that can only be activated if her human pilot is in danger. Dragon Quest X Awakening Five Races Offline Deluxe Edition Switch NSP
