Mafia 2 Free Download GAMESPACK.NET Mafia II is a period piece, a brash spectacle of organized crime backdropped against a romantic vision of 1940s and 50s metropolis americana. It has old-timey slang, cars that drive like boats, and big band radio hits. There’s also narcotics trafficking, racketeering, grand larceny, and murder.  Ten years after its initial release, the remastered version of Mafia II ends up feeling like a period piece itself. It’s a throwback to when open worlds weren’t staggeringly large and meant to pull the player in a million different directions. It’s a reminder that games used to struggle to tell stories outside of cinematic cutscenes — and Mafia II has more than two hours of them. In retrospect, they may not have been better times but they were certainly simpler times. TOP/BEST ADULT VIDEO GAMES IN UNITED STATES OF AMERICA (USA)

This macabre mafioso coming-of-age tale is a winding narrative that starts with antihero Vito Scaletta struggling to pay his dead father’s debts. Eventually, Vito rises through the ranks of a prominent Italian mafia family by showing unwavering loyalty to the mobsters above him. It’s very much a Goodfellas-type arc, a biopic of sorts that details the rise, glory, and fall from grace. Mafia II manages to tell a compelling and convincing story mostly thanks to how tightly it controls its plot. This isn’t so much an open-world game, but rather a game that takes place in an open world. There’s little in the way of extraneous activities apart from some super-optional collecting. Mafia II whisks Vito from plot beat to plot beat without so much as a breather to enjoy the spoils of his newfound success.

Even though Mafia II always moves at a breakneck pace, it often struggles to maintain momentum. Too many chapters are strung along by completing menial and tedious tasks. There’s a scene early on where Vito tries making an honest day’s living by loading crates onto a truck. He makes it about two minutes before turning to a life of crime, our indication that Vito isn’t content to earn his keep like all those other suckers. Then, he spends a day unloading cigarettes off a truck, which is really just the illegal inverse. However, Mafia II delivers the goods more often than not by putting its biggest conflicts in pulpy settings. These corridored shootouts in places like distilleries, skyscraper hotels, and Chinese restaurants inject a dramatic sense of action anytime Mafia II starts to verge toward dull. The pacing is all very uneven — especially screeching to a halt every time Vito’s forced to drive cross-city during a mission — but it doesn’t distract much because of how quickly the narrative moves along. I remember snagging the limited edition of Mafia II back in the day and playing through it made for one of the most memorable gaming experiences of last generation. Now that a Definitive Edition is available for modern consoles, I hope many more gamers check it out so they can see what makes it so special. By far, the most impressive part of Mafia II is its character-driven story that features a large cast of criminals who you will either love or hate. Heck, even some of the despicable characters have a certain charm to their womanizing and bigotry that’s sure to upset certain types of people but if you expect a bunch of Italian mobsters from the ’50s to be an inclusive bunch then you must be smoking some potent jazz cigarettes. Anyway, the overarching story is fantastically engaging and the ending is one of the most hard-hitting that I’ve ever seen in a video game. It’s great stuff that’ll stay with you long after the end credits roll.

Mafia II stars Vito Scaletta who’s caught robbing a store with his buddy Joe Barbaro back in 1943. Although Joe gets away, Vito is arrested and to serve his time, he decides to fight in World War II. This beginning of the story shows the contrast between Vito’s home of the now war-torn Sicily and the promising modern city of Empire Bay which is an absolutely brilliant way to introduce the player to where the protagonist came from and where he’s going. After Joe forges some paperwork, Vito gets the opportunity to leave the army early and the 2 gradually go from petty organized jobs to climbing the ranks of the Mafia while experiencing many ups and downs along the way. Every character is masterfully presented, the voice acting is spot-on, and the unfolding story will keep you hooked. One aspect about Mafia II that’s nothing short of captivating is its game world. Empire Bay is a large and diverse city that’s a treat to explore. Plus, there’s nothing quite like listening to a collection of big band and doo-wop hits while driving through city streets that are lined with inviting lunch spots, classic cars, and nondescript brick apartment buildings. Speaking of music, it’s awesome how many licensed songs there are from artists such as Dean Martin, Ritchie Valens, Buddy Holly, Little Richard, Bing Crosby, and Nat King Cole. Paradise Lust

It’ll definitely make you feel like you’re in the ’50s. Simpler times. Oh, and the original orchestral score is pitch-perfect, too. Mafia 2 is criminally underrated. It’s a lavish gangster spectacle with some of the best world-building on PC. The setting is stunning, the story is gripping, and the attention to detail is obscene. Sure, it has a few problems. There’s a little too much combat. The car handling is twitchy. Some of the checkpointing is rage-inducing. But it’s still great, despite its shortcomings. It’s the story of Vito Scaletta, whose family emigrates from Sicily to the city of Empire Bay in 1932. After being arrested for robbery in 1943, he’s given a choice: go to jail, or join the Army. He decides a stint in the Army is better than rotting in a cell, and finds himself back in Sicily fighting Mussolini’s blackshirts.

In 1945, Vito returns to Empire Bay on leave. He’s due back in a month, but his old pal Joe Barbaro—who has connections with organised crime—pulls some strings, and he’s suddenly freed from service. He tries to live a straight life, humping crates down at the docks for ten bucks a day. But he doesn’t last long. The lure of the underworld, and the riches it promises, is just too powerful for a guy like Vito. Reviews were mixed. Its toughest critics complained that its open world was empty, that there was nothing to ‘do’ in it. But they were kinda missing the point. If you play Mafia 2 expecting Grand Theft Auto, you’re going to be disappointed. It’s really a completely linear, story-led shooter. The city is there, but it’s just a backdrop. A lovingly crafted film set designed to give the story a rich sense of place. Empire Bay is not as dense or intricate as the likes of Grand Theft Auto V’s Los Santos or, more recently, Watch Dogs 2’s San Francisco—but it’s still one of the best virtual cities on PC. It’s fictional, based loosely on New York City and Chicago. But the artists at 2K Czech did a stellar job of making it feel like a real place. And the level of fine detail is remarkable throughout. Workers mill around the docks, unloading cargo from ships. Cherry blossom trees sway in the wind in Chinatown. Birds perch on street signs. There are newspaper boys, smoking chimneys, and a thousand other tiny incidental details, which combine into a wonderful whole. Empire Bay is not littered with side missions, arbitrary collectibles, or crazy vehicles to steal. You never get to drive a tank or use a jetpack. But it’s still a joy to wander and explore its streets—for what it is, and how it feels, rather than what it has to offer you between missions. It didn’t take me long to fall in love with Mafia 2. The second mission, in fact. Our anti-hero returns from World War II on a cold winter’s evening in 1945, and finds himself back in the Italian neighbourhood where he grew up. Dean Martin’s Christmas classic Let It Snow plays as he walks the streets, still in his uniform, suitcase in hand. An inspired use of licensed music.
