Like No Other The Legend Of The Twin Books Switch NSP Free Download GAMESPACK.NET Like No Other: The Legend of the Twin Books is one of those games that I had no idea existed before I was offered the chance to check it out, but was immediately drawn into thanks to a slick visual style. You’ve only got to look at the screenshots to see that it’s a very pretty game, whilst it also just so happens to look good in motion. Looks aren’t everything though, so how does it hold up as a point and click adventure? Well… it’s a bit so-so. The game puts players in the role of Dan, an adventurer that’s looking to uncover the mysterious Spirits’ Book from the museum of Red Pines after the town was seemingly abandoned. This means solving puzzling, unravelling clues, and making his way through what remains of the derelict locale, all whilst dealing with the peculiar (and sometimes dangerous) situations he gets himself into. If I’m being honest, it was hard to invest myself fully in the tale. Not only is there a lack of depth to the situation in Red Pines or Dan as a character, but the story beats lack any sense of tension, discovery, or humour. Even the NPCs you encounter bring little to the tale, instead offering a few little quips that don’t particularly add to the storytelling. It’s not that the narrative is bad, but that it felt too simple and didn’t do enough to make me feel all that interested in it. Fortunately, the puzzle-solving is a lot more enjoyable, with players having to gather items in the environment to interact with objects as well as do a bit of logical thinking to overcome the obstacles in their path. There’s a decent variety of things to do, and whilst Like No Other: The Legend of the Twin Books doesn’t offer any perplexing enigmas that’ll have players stumped for ages, I enjoyed solving its puzzles. The game actually pushes itself as a family friendly point and click adventure and it’s telling in how easy it could be, but that didn’t mean it wasn’t fun. Whether it’s re-routing the power in a garage, outwitting a wandering Roomba, stealthily avoiding wandering wolves, or figuring out the password to a PC, the puzzle design was enjoyable and kept me invested in the adventure.

23 unique rooms to explore.

My only real issue with the gameplay was that the controls felt needlessly awkward. Similar point and click puzzlers on the Nintendo Switch have allowed players to quickly switch between interactable items with a button press or allow players to walk to items to interact with them, but Like No Other: The Legend of the Twin Books has players move Dan around with the left stick but also move a cursor with the right stick that interacts with objects. It was unintuitive and made the simplest of actions feel needlessly awkward, whilst even switching items in your inventory felt cumbersome too. Want a piece of advice? Change the speed of the cursor in the menu, you won’t regret it. Like No Other: The Legend of the Twin Books isn’t a particularly long game (I beat it in just over an hour whilst finding nearly all of the optional hidden caches to collect), so the issues it has don’t stay so long that they become too much of a frustration. There was enough good in the puzzling within that hour for it to outweigh the issues that annoyed me, so the brevity works to its advantage in some ways. On the flipside, Like No Other: The Legend of the Twin Books isn’t a cheap game. Endless Memories Switch NSP

So some might think they’re not getting enough bang for their buck. I’ve got to give praise to the visuals, which I was a big fan of. Like No Other: The Legend of the Twin Books has this Saturday Morning Cartoon-style of look that I’m especially fond of, with some quirky and creative designs ensuring the world felt interesting to explore. Some neat lighting effects add to the overall atmosphere, whilst the cutesy animations gave it all a bit more personality. I just really liked the way everything looked in the game and would have loved to have the seen more of what the world had to offer. Like No Other: The Legend of the Twin Books is a simple game. It literally markets itself, on its own Steam page, as a game with easy-to-learn, accessible controls, lower difficulty, and no death or violence. This is a game that shows that games do not need to use violence to tell a fun story, although it is a very short story that it tells. So, to be forewarned, the game is incredibly short. It’s about 60-90 minutes long, although if you want to search all the areas thoroughly and look for all the special collectible caches, it’ll maybe be closer to two hours long.

No death / violence.

However, the developers also list this on their Steam page. Like No Other: The Legend of the Twin Books is not pretending to be some long game. As a matter of fact, the game plays like some of those old kid’s games like Putt-Putt in that it has inoffensive dialogue, situations, and characters, it can be finished within a single sitting, and it isn’t difficult to complete. The few scenes that offer any level of difficulty, such as one section in which you need to sneak around some wolves, remove the wolves you’ve already gotten past. This means that if you fail on the second wolf, you don’t have to redo the first wolf to get to them. Like No Other: The Legend of the Twin Books is a not challenging game, and it doesn’t want to be. It wants you to have a chilled-out time making your way through its fun little plot and its cute little levels. The gameplay in Like No Other: The Legend of the Twin Books is very standard point-and-click stuff. You find items, put them in your inventory, and then use those items to solve environmental puzzles. None of the puzzles are particularly challenging, aside from one that can be a little annoying. However, only having one irritating puzzle in a point-and-click game is like scoring the jackpot. SIGNALIS

This means that you don’t have to expect the kind of moon logic you usually see from games like the early LucasArts point-and-click games or some of the sillier puzzles in the more recent Broken Age. This game is very simple in terms of its puzzles. You need a crowbar to open some manholes? Well, there’s a crowbar over there! Congratulations: puzzle complete. However, some get a little more complicated than that, but not to an extraordinary degree. Typically, the puzzles are very logical. Find keys to open a locked door. That sort of thing rather than all the random things you do in Grim Fandango to finish any puzzle in that bizarre if fantastic game. The gameplay is set within two main areas, and they are not long areas considering the length of the game, but both will take equally as long to explore and finish. Like No Other: The Legend of the Twin Books has very small but utterly unique levels. There’s no repetition there, although there is some backtracking at times. And you will explore these handcrafted levels while finishing the various puzzles you encounter. It starts off well. The art style is quite appealing, a bit like Where’s Waldo with loose pencil lines and bright colors, and the main character is charming.

Easy-to-learn controls and accessible gameplay.

He’s apparently an elderly treasure hunter in a post-apocalyptic world going in for one last score, and seeing him enter the scene in an old jeep and carrying a beaten-up backpack set the mood perfectly. There’s a bit of setup at the beginning — something about a book or a copy of a book (I think?) but there’s not much more than that. I jumped ahead thinking that the plot would unfold as play went on, but it never did. When I rolled credits, I knew nothing more than what I did at the start, and it’s a real shame because I think the character ( I can’t even remember his name. Did he even have one?) is visually appealing, the broken-down and dried-out world seems full of promise, and there’s a lot of potential for jokes, social commentary or just some light-hearted storytelling. Unfortunately, the developers don’t go there, so what we have left is an almost purely mechanical exercise. This is a small game, streamlined and restrained in square footage, but the developers pack a lot into a little while never going overboard. The first half of play happens in a city block with only a couple of interactive places — a car garage and an apartment building.

The building has several rooms and floors, so the player will spend a lot of time here trying to figure out how to get past blocked stairwells and locked doors. Unlike many entries in this genre, almost every single puzzle is entirely logical. The locked door needs a key. A broken switch needs a lever. A dark hallway means a fuse needs to be replaced, and so on. And, because the area that the player can search is so small, it doesn’t take long before they find the item that they need to progress. It’s all very quick and to-the-point, but it’s also satisfying, and that’s the key thing. Out of the entire game I only needed to look up one answer, and when it comes to the point-and-click genre, that’s an absolutely stellar batting average in puzzle design. The second half of the game is an abandoned museum, and the developers keep adding interesting puzzles and logical situations. There’s a bit of fantastical whimsy to be sure, but it’s never illogical or impossible to follow. Even better, if the player does get stuck at any point, helpful hints pop up in the corner of the screen to point the way.

The simple act of playing Like No Other is enjoyable thanks to its no-nonsense challenges, fat-free design and the developers’ unwillingness to indulge in the tropes that sink more traditional point-and-clicks. The player is also spared from a million inconsequential ‘flavor’ texts to get through, none of the items in the player’s inventory are worthless, and there’s no brain busting, convoluted solutions that would be cockamamie nonsense in real life. There’s nothing quite like the thrill of an adventure, right? It’s the reason many of us indulge in the escapades of Indiana Jones, Tintin, Finn and Jake, Dora et al. Maybe Dan could be added to the list, for he’s the protagonist of the new point-and-click adventure Like No Other: The Legend Of The Twin Books.  With developers Actoon Studio proclaiming Like No Other: The Legend Of The Twin Books is easy to pick up, doesn’t require much skill, and is devoid of violence, there’s real potential for it to be a fun and exciting caper that all of the family can enjoy. So, is Dan the man to deliver a memorable experience as he embarks upon his first foray into adventuring, or is Like No Other: The Legend Of The Twin Books one to forget? DEAD MAN´S DIARY
