I just finished Doom Eternal and started to look for a new game to beat and I found this hidden gem. I’m going to compare it to Doom Eternal since Doom is the only game that can even get close to Turbo Overkill in intensity. To start off, the combat is phenomenal. You move so fast and can dash, stick to walls, and use a chainsaw leg to clean up fodder enemies.

The chainsaw leg gets even more broken once you get the upgrades (yes, upgrades!) that allows it to drop health and armor. The double barrel shotgun is going to be your friend like in Doom but the sound design could use some work. The rocket launcher is so broken. You can upgrade it to charge up a 4 rocket burst that chews through the health of anything in its path if it doesn’t immediately gib them. The levels are confusing and downright terrible at times (looking at you, Rooftops) and the objective is only sometimes marked. Speaking of Rooftops, some levels have cutscenes that play to introduce you to them and Rooftops starts with your character grabbing a rocket launcher from a pile of gibbed bodies, jumping off the building you are on, firing the rocket launcher, then rocket jumping like it’s  Quake. The graphics are beautiful and the pixel art textures are better than one would think.  The upgrade system is a welcome change of pace from many of these new age classic shooters, I had to sit and really think about my choices when selecting new upgrades with most being useful and only a few seeming useless, for my playthrough and build anyway. I only encountered a few bugs in the game, most of which were me chainsaw sliding through the map by accident or getting trapped in a corer while sliding needing to rocket jump to free myself.Brigandine The Legend of Runersia
