As a fan of classic Sierra and Lucas Arts adventure games, and more recent entries like Thimbleweed Park and Kathy Rain, I found Slender Threads to be a near-perfect addition into the modern point-and-click adventure genre. Every element — art direction, writing, voice acting, score, and puzzle design — is well crafted and creates a compelling atmosphere. The designers struck a great balance between humor and darkness — the game never takes itself too seriously, delivering genuine laugh-out-loud moments, yet it carries a darker edge with some real depth to its story. While it definitely follows (and make clever jokes about) point-and-click adventure tropes, Slender Threads carves out it own identity with an original setting and story. It also has some of the best pacing I’ve experienced in a P&C adventure game. The pacing matches the vibe and atmosphere, but also never feels unnecessarily slowed by a particularly annoying puzzle or too-long cut scene. This is a solid, if somewhat simple, point and click of the classic variety. It starts out incredibly strong, but does peter out a bit towards the end. In fact, the ending feels a bit rushed and ultimately somewhat unsatisfying. Additionally, the design is relatively straightforward in the sense that each location and object has one purpose (for the most part, there are a few exceptions).

If you like point and click games or if a weird comedy-horror story is up your alley, this game won’t overstay its welcome and will scratch those itches. It didn’t capture me the way An English Haunting or LocoMotive did, but it’s a good game that’s worth your time. I have this game sitting in my wishlist for years. I played the demo long time ago and it was so good, I was worried for awhile when I saw the released date hasn’t been updated for a long time but I am so grateful they hvn’t abandoned the project because the final product is such an amazing experience. The narrative is done so well, the voice acting is amazing, the characters are great and the twist is so delightful. The art style of this game especially is so unique and I have to say pretty uncommon to see in the gaming world, one of the main reason as to why I am so attracted to this game in the first place. I always appreciate games that have such strong art directions instead of going for ‘realism’. Thank you so much for not giving up on this project <3. It must have taken a lot of efforts, time and funds to complete it. I appreciate what you have done and looking forward to your next project, devs.
