Story mode has the player play as either Azai Nagamasa, Katakura Kojūrō, and Oichi going through five stages. Another difference is with the game’s controls while the button layout is similar to most Warrior type games with square being a weak attack, triangle being the strong attack, x being for jump, L1 being for blocking, circle for super move, and etc, but the L1 in this game is used for switching what type of strong attack move the character uses for stringing combos or different effects like priming your enemies defensives/ weakening the enemy slightly temporary, R1 is for blocking attacks and L2 is to active the Fever Drive which increases the damage output and speed of the characters attacks. The gameplay in execution both fast-paced and fluid responsive controls as if you mixed in the fast combat of Devil May Cry and cathartic nature of defeating over a 100 enemies at once. The in-game models for the characters and set pieces are pretty detailed and use cell-shaded textures to make the game colorful and as if you were playing a 3d anime. One major problem with the characters models is within in-game cutscenes when the characters talk they don’t move their mouths as if this was an early ps1 game luckily this issue was addressed within later games in the series. I was lucky to find myself a copy of the HD collection for a price of 25 dollars in order to play this game for the review.
