This is definitely an “indie” game, but I deeply appreciate it and hope the developer keeps making more (and it looks like another one is already in the works!) Storyline: The story had an interesting progression that engaged me more than I thought it would at the beginning. There were some very surprising plot twists, you catch characters lying, and there’s some strong emotional aspects to the storyline. There is a bit more mature themes (alcoholism, extramarital affairs, and a dead body), but no gore and nothing too disturbing. There was a good mix of the past and the present in the storyline. I also liked that Alex is human and makes mistakes (but unlike Nancy Drew she acknowledges her lack of tact and makes amends!). There were also some great moments where I felt my heart rate go up!

The voice acting of the suspects was excellent! I read that the developer said (at least at one point in development) that they were not professionals, which makes the acting even more impressive. I appreciated that there was an emphasis on the characters’ relationships with each other, and those relationships moved the plot. The environment was sufficiently large that I didn’t get bored or claustrophobic like in some of the ND games. I liked that there were different areas that were all part of one continuous setting (with a bike feature introduced part way that saves travel time). I really liked the bike! I got a little endorphin rush every time I saw my little bike parked. You could tell there was a lot of thought that went into the details of the environments and which assets were placed in them. Thronebreaker The Witcher Tales

I’m not a big puzzle fan and I appreciated that there were not too many in this game. The ones that were there were solvable but still made me have to use my brain in a satisfying way. I was really impressed with some of them! If you like puzzles, there were additional optional puzzles to solve. I loved that you actually got to solve the mystery by finding evidence (rather than just walking around and things happening to you, or by infodumps through monologues or journals). Not all the evidence was equally important, which gave it a feel of realism. There was a journal or two, but unlike most games in this genre, the journals were so engaging I actually wished they were longer! I loved the tags on the inventory items, the to-do list, and the dialogue skipping feature!
