On paper, this is awesome, VR Mudrunner. In game? Execution is certainly there, but I’m not sure it’s done well. In typical Mudrunner/ SnowRunner fashion, no matter what vehicle you get next, you’ll be met with magic mud that suddenly slows your car/ truck/ dedicated offroading vehicle to a crawl, making the feeling of getting better trucks kinda suck. I’m fine with the vehicles being slow, but don’t instantly put a mud patch designed to slow my new vehicle down right in front of the area where I’m rewarded with that vehicle. Besides all of that, this game is a vomit factory. I don’t get motion sick in VR often and have no issue in 99% of games, but even on the smooth cab settings there’s something about this game that makes me want to die after about 20 minutes. The buttons in the cab of the vehicle are fun, but they really need an option for the player hands to “stick” to the button instead of letting your hand free float and hope you don’t switch it on and immediately back off because you hit a bump. The driving controls are a bit weird, strangely, the motion controls for the steering wheel made me feel significant less ill than using the VR controllers to steer. This game is almost there, but it’s held back by strange design choices, the interaction “zones” (like where you move your hand to something and it snaps to it, like a door handle) seem small, and their responsiveness is a bit sluggish. I press the button and there’s a noticeable delay to when my hands in game grab the door and open it.

This plus the state of MudRunner Expeditions kind of make me leery of the upcoming RoadCraft game. There’s solid ideas in both games, but it feels like both were rushed out with underbaked ideas. I’m not going to refund it, because I’d like to see where this game lands in about a year. If I wasn’t a die hard fan of the series, I would definitely return this, however.
