of games was spent in the original FATE, and playing an hour or so of that same game in this release, I have good and bad to say. Obviously the biggest feature of this remaster is the upgraded visual style, and I think the developers have succeeded in this goal. The game looks stunning in many ways, and personally some design choices with the UI I can live with. This game was never meant to be a 1:1 recreation, after all. I’m a big fan of the original audio being used, from the narrator to the music to foley and other sound effects. All of it is sill a perfect fit for a FATE game, and to recreate it all would be a big challenge.

In looking at some of the bad however, I wanted to consider what makes FATE, FATE. To me, it’s a big loop game: Explore a floor, kill enemies, loot, finish quests, and return to get stronger. With this in mind I feel the mechanics of how the game play loop operates are very important, and while there are innovations to it, there are also some big drawbacks that I have noticed so far. Fair warning the mechanics of having your inventory screens available while moving is gone. Not only that but the item stat screen is shoved into the bottom right hand corner and it really ruins the fluidity of how the first games played. Honesty kinda upsetting considering how much i love the Fate series but come on. The way the game was played and the way it “felt” is not he same. Going in and out of menus and having to look on the other side of the screen for item stats is super annoying. If you didnt play the first games you might not bat an eye at it but it feels way more clunky and not very fluid. Ill change my review to positive if they give us UI options. I feel like having either a customizable UI or even just a legacy option would be great and would make a lot of players very happy. i enjoy the new hotbar but also some players dont because its way smaller which is totally understandable. Its primarily the UI and how it feels but tbh thats what made fate so appealing to me in the first place and now its gone.

I was really looking forward to this but it feels like it released to early. I do like some of the QOL things that were added but the bugs and visuals really need to be addressed. Some textures and models feel like they have been updated and given a refresh while others still look low poly and low res which causes severe clashing with the art style. There are also a handful of bugs that, while not game breaking, are just annoying to deal with. Also this might just be a minor nitpick but the quest rewards and boss drops do not feel balanced, I got boots that required over 100 strength to wear from a boss drop on level 1. If they go back and fix the bugs and sort out the situation going on with the textures I’ll revise my review to a positive one, It just doesn’t feel that great to play compared to the original games atm.
