The systems that go into this otherwise standard heroine-RPG are a step above the norm in the genre, and I would consider this an iteration on heroine-game genre as a whole. It has an excellent, unique system of sex-combat, that provides you exquisitely rewarding and challenging feedback and control of your gameplay, at the cost of time. The same applies to the corruption-mechanics, developing the heroine’s body, and the side-jobs. This is a very grindy game, if you choose to go the slut-route, but the commitment to that experience means there is some room for the player to work around it. The dealbreakers here are the hentai-themes, with it’s over-the-top maledom, ugly bastards, open misoginy etc, and the large time-commitment it will take to get good at the game, and master it to the point where you can manage a pure-run. But it speaks to the excellence of the game that a pure-run is even worth considering, and an enjoyable experience in it’s own right. In short, this is a very focused, non-linear experience of character-building, with some great art backing up it’s themes and mechanics. Now this game is the type of game that tries too hard on things that would make people who are just there for H-scences quit on the spot: The passive skills; dear God have mercy on how much these things kept stacking more than my paycheck. By the end of the game, Karryn’s becomes too vulnerable against attacks that you will only get one strike in, and the rest of the battle you’ll just have to sit there holding the left mouse button till the H-scences ends. They’re good H-scences thats for sure but overtime it gets more tedious. Another thing is how the game overall feels like a total chore. Even if you manage to clear out a level, it really doesn’t feel satisfying. There’s a reason why most of us prefer Battle-fuck game to be more direct. If you REALLY want to play this but don’t want to deal with sex scenes that last too long or the inconvienent management, cheat. That’s it. just cheat. This game lets you experience being the lewd warden of a failing prison that have been taken oven.

3D Graphics.

This means you are able to enact edicts and control the facilities of the prison, deal with riots and take back control of the prison by fighting the prisoners in 2 different way, by actually physically fighting them or by sexually satisfying them. This is commendable in the current adult games ecosystem, to be able to innovate with something new, but I believe it failed in some way. I assume I wouldn’t say that if I started playing the game from the get go when it just started being developed and that’s because I assume I had a better understanding of the game when the mechanics and systems added incrementally to the game and I add time learning them one by one. It’s a shame, because I wanted to keep playing the game, it looks good and the mechanics are fun, but man, there is soooooo many passives and upgrades and systems and it is all just dumped on you from the first hour of the game. It doesn’t really guide you through all those systems and you have to figure it out with trial and error which I don’t appreciate. because I believe there is some fun to be found after you find your optimized gameplay tactic and it supports replay-ability. The fighting is pretty simple, hit bad guys with the correct form to deal more damage. However, lose or win, you’ll usually be gaining permanent debuffs, even more if you had sex during it. These debuffs will utterly shred your stats, 2 losses is about enough to ruin your save file/run. There are also no manual save points without cheating, so when you’re fucked, you’re fucked. I’m not really a Classic RPG expert. But from what I know, the combat really doesn’t matter. RPG combat is mostly determined about stuff done outside of it, like finding items or leveling up stats. But in this game, it’s never clear which stats you should go for, and previous combat encounters determine how combat goes. Buying stat upgrades only let you level it up faster, so you have no clue what a level of strength really means. At the managment part, alot of it is trial and error of figuring out whats good to spend money on. One wrong choice, your funding is fucked, no takebacks either.

You’re gonna be spending ALOT of time trying to get more money. Most job-types are treated like combat encounters and as you know, you get debuffs, and they don’t even pay well. Normally, a no-sex game like this would recieve a 4/10 on this, but it’s exceptional for 2 reasons. First, there is no gallery or test mode. You must throw away a run or use backup files to view for pleasure. Second, it’s not just a game-over when you lose, it’s a crippling attack to your save file. I can forgive sex dealing damage and that you need to avoid it, but making it ruin your stats is on a whole other level. In my opinion, Karryn’s Prison is a paragon of what other RPGM hentai games should be: it’s a porn game where everything is about the porn. Combat has sexual attacks, sidejobs and items increase corruption which makes the FeMC more sexual, etc. Basically, you play as a female warden of a prison that is suffering a rebellion. You must subdue prisoners by beating their asses. Prisoners will fight back but, since Karryn is curvy to the point of hilarity, they will frequently prefer to ogle her, fap or try to displace her clothes. As the game progresses, Karryn’s sexual desires grow and have to be managed.

Otherwise, prisoners become more and more daring (they can only touch her if her desires are high enough, so even though it seems rape-y and absurd, the idea is she’s allowing it as her desires get out of hand). As desires grow, player unlocks passives which debuff Karryn when her desires grow out of hand, making fights difficult and throwing player at a death spiral, with the intention of leading Karryn to her inevitable corruption. When she’s gone far enough, she will unlock sexual attacks of her own and become capable of fighting back either physically or sexually. There’s some issues, but I love how sex isn’t separated from the core gameplay, and the game can display some variety even after Karryn has been througly corrupted, thanks to sexual combat. It should be said that you don’t have as much control as, let’s say, Lilith’s Throne. Even if you have consensual sex, desire debuffs mean enemies will act first almost always, so players may have a hard time taking the initiative in sex. Other than that, it mostly works as it should and makes your fapping time really fun.

First and foremost, Karryn’s Prison is game-over-rape done as right as it gets. It’s a game about struggling against inevitable corruption, so losses force you into erotic situations where Karryn needs to resist her own desires in order to escape. These situations do not end the game and do not resolve in rape really, as the inmates won’t actually touch Karryn until her body is begging for it. It’s a great system that other games should emulate, if they haven’t already. Bonus points that there’s plenty of eroticism in the game even before you lose. On the other hand, the game can feel aggressively repetitive the longer you play it. Battling gets harder as Karryn suffers more corruption, which is a great system, but it also stymies advancement as a result. Before you know it you’ll be in a loop working the bar job and front desk for money and prison control. These mini-games are not short and while I enjoyed them the first few times I played them, they started to get stale the seventh or eighth time I had to run them.
