The heroes get into some kind of cafe and start conversations with the opposite sex. In the future, if a relationship develops with someone, then they will develop over the course of three dates. What is very vital – you can cause dissatisfaction with the interlocutor at any stage. Literally one wrong phrase and the game (or storyline) is over. Ten Dates, as a sequel to Five Dates, goes into a very similar direction and still is a FMV in which you make choices that will decide if your dates go well or not. This time just instead of an online date, it starts of as a speed date. The concept of a date is simple and something we all know which makes it easy to get into the characters and understand how they feel. Its also nice that the cast is quite diverse as it makes the dates a lot more different and makes it so that we all will find someone thats interesting to us at least to an extend. The choices you make also can change a pretty broad portion of the conversations and even the interests you pick in the beginning for the character you play do have some consequences in the dialogues. In general if you think you would enjoy this type of game then you most likely will actually end up liking it. I do have to say that the writing isnt super good and that some things in the conversations arent the most logical at times, but for the vast majority of the game the writing is more than okay.

Diverse Characters.

What I do not like that much though is that at parts I found it a little hard to follow some of the dialogue, which resulted in me at the choices sometimes not knowing what the question the character asked me actually was. It would have been great if the question, at least if possible, was stated with the subtitles or in general in text so it is easier to pick the right choice. This also would help when you play through it multiple times. It might also not be a problem for most of you, as long as you always concentrate on what is being said, but as I played it together with a friend we sometimes had to randomly guess the answer as we just didnt know what to pick.A second thing that actually really bugged me is, that you can get to the third date, have all the stats perfect and you can still fail to get into the relationship. Why even have the stats with the percentages shown, if they arent the one thing, that decides if you are successful or not. I was really suprised when I failed the last date with Hazel even though I got along great with her. Overall though, it is a fun experience to go through and this one in comparison to Five Dates, offers more content and has a more polished feel to it. So in short, I recommend it if you liked the first game, or if the description sounds interesting to you.Dice Legacy

This was the first Wales Interactive title for me and as much as I would have expected to PUA the entire way through since it actually is a game, i was a bit relieved the characters took after the more unpredictable natures of real people and threw me off several times despite the typical archetypes offered. you can’t blindly mirror every persona, challenging values can sometimes lead to the favorable outcome, sympathy isn’t always what’s on the menu, and that highlights some real important points about human interaction that game systems so often reject, for the sake of predictability. there’s also a profile building mechanic at the start that lets you choose the 3x interests, a profile pic, and your starsign which have influenced variations in the dialogue and seem to subtley smooth out the encounters a bit more, but i’ve only briefly tested this on 3 repeat encounters. unfortunately there is only one gay interest apiece between the guy and the girl, political discussion was at a minimum, and there are no save points during the relationship arc, which conveniently clocked in at only 20-30 minutes each. i felt the actors did a good job, the characters were relatable, and the game is reasonably priced at 20USD since i can see myself spending another 3-4 hours exploring unserious narrative choices.

High-Quality Graphics and Sound Effects.

Looking back on Wales Interactive’s Five Dates in 2023, more than two years after its debut, reveals a fascinating glimpse into what life was like during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s a game that leans heavily into the idea that the dating world has migrated online, forcing singletons to conduct awkward interview-style conversations with potential suitors. We certainly enjoyed it for what it was back in 2020, but we’d perhaps argue that it’s aged better as a sort of historical artefact; a brief portal into a world that most of us would quite happily forget. Its sequel, Ten Dates, isn’t afforded the same novelty. While the pandemic marches on across the globe, many countries have taken to treating the virus as endemic, thus returning to some semblance of normality (whatever that looks like these days). With this in mind, Ten Dates is very much a traditional affair; a game that puts its focus squarely on face-to-face interactions within typical social settings. It’s undoubtedly missing the “novelty” of remote interactions that made the first game so unique, but the focus on real-life conversations makes for a more enjoyable experience all round. In case the title doesn’t spell it out for you, Ten Dates doubles the amount of dates you’ll be going on compared to the first game.

It stars Misha and Ryan, two millennials who embark on a speed dating event in search of that special in-person connection. Each character will go on five initial dates each, four of which with a member of the opposite sex, with the remaining date taking place with someone of the same sex. Pretty straightforward stuff, then. Ten Dates follows a pretty similar structure to the first game. After choosing your character, you’ll create an online persona, complete with a profile picture, interests, occupation, and star sign. These choices then filter into the conversations you’ll be having later down the line. For example, if you choose arts and crafts as a hobby for Ryan, he’ll be completely clued up on the concept of NFTs when the subject is raised later, but if you opt for something like travel, he’ll have absolutely no idea what the heck an NFT is (he’s probably better off that way). It’s subtle stuff, but it’s nice that your initial choices actually have a tangible impact on your experience. Once you’re done creating your persona, you’ll embark on your initial five dates, all of which naturally occur within the same environment thanks to the speed dating event. The cast of characters you’ll meet here are reasonably diverse, each displaying their own unique personality and quirks, including Azalea, who creates her own cocktails and studies astrology, Hazel, whose loyalty to her peers came at the expense of her own freedom.

And Ty, an arrogant motorcyclist with more jewellery than manners. There are many others besides these three, and we genuinely enjoyed interacting with each and every character. Of course, the idea of is you need to whittle your options down until you’re left with one final date with the man or woman of your choosing. This is done by navigating your way through a series of dialogue choices, and what you choose will contribute to a successful or unsuccessful date. There are some scenarios where what you should say in order to cultivate a successful date may seem obvious, but the game regularly throws curveballs at you to derail your progress. This is frustrating in the moment, but we admit that this feels quite true to life; you never really know exactly how a stranger might react to what you say or do. That said, the vast majority of the interactions you’ll experience are pretty straightforward from start to finish. If there’s someone from those initial five dates that you’re completely set on, it’s pretty easy to manipulate the conversation to go exactly how you want, and chances are you’ll be sat back down with them on a third date with no real fuss. It’s not a dealbreaker, by any means, but the experience isn’t particularly challenging in that regard. The game offers a compatibility quiz that helps players determine which characters they are most compatible with. This adds a level of personalization to the game and allows players to find the perfect match.
