Reatomized is a remastered version of the original game that released back in 2015 for PC adding a new challenge mode, interactions when surviving and ways to survive. Set in the 1950s, it follows the McDoodle family (Ted, Dolores and their two children Mary Jane and Timmy) as they try and survive the nuclear apocalypse for as many days as possible until they get rescued or they perish. It’s up to you and your decisions that will determine how long they last and if they last. 60 Seconds! is split into two parts that play pretty differently from each other. some things require more hands to carry so it’s important to be quick on your feet and adapt to carry as much as you can efficiently or you may end up wasting precious time. The items you choose can drastically change how you survive and how long once you enter the bunker. For example, not picking up a medkit before entering the bunker could leave someone sick early on and if they aren’t treated they can die. Or you may choose the medkit over more rations so while you are all healthy, you may not have enough food to survive. The scavenge part of the game is in third-person as you run around the randomly-generated layout of the house trying to collect everything you can while bumping into obstacles that slow you down significantly. Controlling either Ted or Dolores feels rather clunky though, which could be on purpose to add to the chaos and make it harder to collect items, but it doesn’t feel gratifying to control regardless. Luckily it’s only 60 seconds long so it’s not a huge hindrance and once you enter the bunker it essentially changes the gameplay into a visual novel. The survival stage is really the meat of 60 Seconds! Reatomized as you have to make sure the McDoodles survive and are rescued with everything you collected earlier which greatly impacts how this stage progresses. As the days go by one by one, you have to divide your rations with whoever is in the bunker along with making sure everyone is healthy while making some critical decisions that may or may not help you keep this family alive.

NEW GAMEPLAY MODE.

All the actions that you make and how the family copes with them are kept in the journal which will also tell you if they need any sort of rations. Events will happen such as people knocking on your door or something moving in the ceiling and you have to make decisions on what to do about them, but sometimes you can’t do anything because you didn’t bring the right items with you. Not to fear though, you can send members of the family out on expeditions when supplies start running low that could give you key items to help, but they could also be killed while out there. Playing multiple rounds and seeing how different each one could be is actually quite interesting and offers up a lot of replayability. Sometimes you could be in the bunker for more than 50 days with no hope as everyone starves, but another round you could get lucky by having the right items and be rescued within 20 days. Some items definitely feel more important than others such as the medkits and rations, but it’s really about how you use them in the bunker that will help you in the long run. The newly added challenge mode offers even more to do in 60 Seconds! Reatomized with survival and scavenge modes. An example would be the ‘Responsible Parent’ survival challenge where you have to survive for 50 days without letting any of the kids die or sending them on expeditions with weapons disabled. It can be rather difficult since some of the items they disable are the more essential ones, but it’s a nice change from doing whatever you want in the normal survival mode to being more strategic with your actions. The gameplay can actually be separated into two distinct portions: the first is the 60 seconds of resource gathering and the second is the process of managing those resources, making decisions, and trying to survive in this post-apocalyptic world you now find yourself in. But before you get to either of those portions of the game you need to decide on a difficulty. You’ve got Little Boy, Fat Man, and Tsar Bomba. Now for those of you who aren’t quite familiar with your nuclear bombs, Little Boy was the bomb dropped on Hiroshima, Fat Man was the one dropped on Nagasaki, and the Tsar Bomba was the most powerful nuclear weapon to ever be tested. Little Boy is the easiest difficulty while Tsar Bomba is the hardest. Not only does this increase the challenge of surviving by decreasing resource spawns at the beginning of the game, it limits the spawns of family members, and increases dangerous encounters as well as item fragility. The resource gathering portion of this game is cool to see and I really like the idea that you can choose which items and family members to grab, like Little Timmy.

But sadly, the mechanics are atrocious. Much of the game champions a wacky 2D art style that shows off a lot of character and makes things fun, but while gathering resources that style is replaced by 3D models that are just bland. The movement is even worse – it feels less like you’re moving a person and more like you’re trying to drive a car that can’t get any traction. It doesn’t help that there are items placed throughout the house that serve no purpose other than to get in your way when, frankly, the movement is enough to do that on its own. All that being said, once you get past those first 60 seconds the format of the game changes drastically. First off, the aforementioned 2D art style shows itself and it is a massive improvement. The characters and environment actually have personality. You also no longer need to deal with the uncomfortable walking controls. Instead, the rest of the game uses point and click actions. Now it’s time to try and survive with the materials and people you grabbed, assuming you actually decided to save your family. I mean, they may be family, but a radio can establish contact with remote groups of survivors. I’d like to see Little Timmy do that. Each day will consist of reading a brief on the previous day’s happenings, allocating food and water to each survivor, and you can also send out a family member on an expedition into the wasteland to find resources and other survivors. The brief on the previous day usually has a good mix of humor thrown into it, but it also gives important game facts such as the physical and mental state of each character as well as their hunger and thirst levels. Water is essential, food is slightly less essential, and bleeding out only happens sometimes but should be avoided. You also have to give each character time to rest – Little Timmy is going to get tired from all those near-death experiences Dolores, Ted, Mary Jane and Timmy return to face the nuclear apocalypse in this new, remastered edition of the classic atomic adventure – 60 Seconds! Reatomized, featuring 4K support, refreshed 2D graphics and hand-drawn 3D textures, new interactive menu, improved UI system, a technical refresh, and of course… new content! With only 60 seconds left to impact, go on a mad dash through the house in search of family members and useful supplies. Everything will be against you: time, your very own furniture, a house that’s different every time you play, and the fundamental question… what to take with you and who to leave behind? Reaching the fallout shelter in time, alive, is only the beginning. Whatever you scavenged and whoever you saved will play a vital role in your survival. It’s up to you. Ration food and water, make best use of your supplies, face difficult choices and even venture into the wasteland. I loved this game so much. I watched kubz scouts 60 second video’s so much, over and over again on repeat. Finally I got the game and I enjoyed it so much. 60 Seconds is such a great game, with such an amazing fan base as well. All and all this game made me feel like I was just like kubz scouts, playing the same game. The aspect of the game is so cool and amazingly it fits just right. The only think I wish that the was, is either some more unique endings like cat lady or men in black, or the bunker changing more often. For example, if shericof (sorry for spelling errors) pulls the wire for the start of the men in black ending. It should show the wire pulled out of the ceiling. Another example is with Pancake, if it says that pancake is sad that you didn’t give him food or anything, Pancake should have sad eyes instead of sitting still with happy faces. The last example is when it says they found a safe behind the map or something, the map should be on the table or something like that to show that there is actually a safe behind it. But all and all this game is amazing and I totally recomend this game to others.

Reatomized has a unique hand-drawn style while in the bunker that changes the appearances of the family based on their status whether they are sick, tired or even mutated, but I really enjoyed how wacky things can look. The third-person portion for scavenge mode looks rather basic but the higher resolution makes it look much better than the original. Performance-wise there were constant framerate drops when in the scavenge mode and while in loading screens, but in the bunker, it ran perfectly fine.

60 Seconds! is an experience that covers literal day-to-day affairs as you make decisions and cower in fear as those decisions bite you in your metaphorical (and sometimes literal) butt. It starts out giving you a few seconds to survey the area then 60 more to grab water, soup, guns… and your family. You make a mental checklist and grab as much of the wide array of items lying around your house that you can. If you don’t drop them off and get to the shelter in time, Ted (the head of the household) cowers on the floor and gets pulverized by an atomic bomb. If you do make it, the real game starts. The basic concept of the game is that you, and whatever family members you grab, are sitting in a nuclear bunker. After taking stock of your items, you are initially told how your family is doing in regard to food, water, fatigue and mental state. You then decide to provide rations based on those feelings. Generally, every third day each member must drink and every sixth they must eat. It then gives you the option to form expeditions. After all of this, you make decisions based on what’s going on around you, such as a leaky pipe or a bang on your shelter. They are usually asked in the form of a yes or no question, and it is left to you to decide what action to take, often not discovering the long term effects of that decision for days or weeks ahead. But this is where the game shines. Playing too passively often ends up with your characters slowly dying or going insane, whereas taking part in all the game offers ends in fascinating and often crazy situations.
