Craftopia Free Download GAMESPACK.NET Earlier this year, I wrote an article about Palworld, a game from developers Pocket Pair that grabbed attention with its tonal whiplash-inducing debut trailer. The game aims to combine survival mechanics seen in the likes of ARK with cute pet mechanics not too dissimilar to Pokémon. It’s a unique looking fusion of two opposing genres, so it’s not a surprise to learn that they also produced Craftopia, which was recently released on Xbox through Game Preview, and is available on Xbox Game Pass. After playing it for a few hours, I’m enjoying its “whatever sticks to the wall” approach to game design, as there’s elements here that feel like they’ve been cribbed from other games. The building mechanics look pretty similar to the building seen in Fortnite (you even pull out a book as you’re building), the traversal, stamina and world design feels like Breath of the Wild, there’s an RPG-esque skill tree, and the whole experience is wrapped up in a Minecraft flavoured bow. Crafting is to be expected in a game called Craftopia, but there’s also farming and a focus on automated material production for the more advanced players, which are all Minecraft staples. Craftopia is pulling from a lot of sources then, and while the game falls into the pitfall of feeling janky as a result of its different influences competing for your attention, the result is a compelling melting pot of ideas that’s pretty fun to play with friends. While it’s likely never going to be a world beating survival/crafting game, it’s already a fun addition to the Game Pass library that’s worth checking out.TOP/BEST ADULT VIDEO GAMES IN UNITED STATES OF AMERICA (USA)

The premise of Craftopia is about as silly as it gets, as you start the game basically nuking the entire planet because, well, you succumbed to the maddening urge to press the jolly, candy-like button. Fortunately, some ancient gods decide now would be a good time for a learning experience, plonking you back into a newly created world and forcing you to scavenge for resources to create the tools and equipment you’ll need to survive. What’s perhaps most appealing about Craftopia is the way it’s structured, even in this Game Preview state. From the get-go, you’re dropped into a small island with only minimal resources and areas to discover, but through gathering enough specific items, you’ll be able to progress to the next Age, which unlocks new tools, equipment and other toys to play with. Instead of modern-day Minecraft, which honestly feels like you’re being bombarded with 10 years of updates in one go when jumping into it today, content is being drip fed to the player once they’ve proved the Age they’re on. Reinforced by a mission system that grants EXP, materials and inventory upgrades for completing basic tasks, Craftopia practically bends over backwards to onboard the player effectively instead of overwhelming them with stuff and expecting everyone to pick up the pieces. Its approach to exploration is also pretty neat, as instead of exploring one massive, randomly generated world, the player is dropped onto a small island with an Altar of Transportation waiting to be found.

Exploring Dungeons.

Using the Altar, players unlock new islands via a grid-based system, which are full of their own secrets, minerals, monsters and discoveries. The further out in the grid you go from your starter island, the harder the monsters become but the bigger the rewards will be. While on an island, you can find goblin encampments, various kinds of dungeons, mines filled with new materials to snatch, and so much more. There’s a lot to discover and grapple with in Craftopia, but again, you’re in control of how you progress throughout the game, so you never quite feel like you’re directionless. The only real issue is when you grab items you can’t actually use yet, meaning your base will be filled with chests of ore that’ll be sitting there until you progress. However, even useless items still have a purpose within Craftopia. Not only can you sell items for cash to buy more from travelling merchants, any leftover items that you have can be offered to your Picture Book, which acts as a journal of all the items and gear you’ve discovered. Offering items in large quantities boosts your base stats, so if you’ve got a lot of one specific item lying around doing nothing, it’s worth putting them out to pasture in one form or another. As Craftopia is a Game Preview game, it still has some issues that get in the way, chiefly the controls when using a controller. It can be quite fiddly to navigate the inventory, specifically when trying to assign items to the hotbar.GUILTY GEAR STRIVE PS5

On top of that, equipping and unequipping items, particularly those assigned to your off-hand, feels like more of a hassle than it should be. There are also a series of bugs that are to be expected considering Craftopia’s Game Preview status, but might wear the patience of other players. At one point, the text randomly decided to look weird, and it still hasn’t fixed itself, while using beds as a respawn point doesn’t seem to matter when you load up the game, as you’ll still spawn in the same place. There’s also one particularly nasty issue where my co-op partner’s Xbox Series X would crash due to “overheating” when trying to approach one area of the game. However, I was playing on an Xbox One X and everything was fine. I wish I had an explanation. Craftopia is also missing a few features that would make the game even better, though again, it is in Game Preview. The developers have rather earnestly clarified in-game that they’re working on a main story with missions to complete, which they’re hoping to release “soon”, so that should add more reasons to play the game. It also appears to be a straight port of the PC version, with lots of video options to toggle that aren’t relevant when playing on an Xbox. When I first loaded up the game the story seems a little out there. I feel like they waited until after they had everything else together before they started to work on a story. Maybe as I progress further in the game or maybe as development progresses they will work on the story a bit more.

Industrialization and Automation.

Craftopia I feel tries to be a little bit of everything. I will say so far the crafting of Craftopia is solid and well thought out. I imagine that was the first mechanic the developers had worked on and then built the game around that. But I fear that trying to be unique they ended up with this weird hybrid of all the big crafting games without thinking about how it would all work together. And even trying to keep in mind that this is in Game Preview state it crashes A LOT! I realize I am playing on an Xbox One S so maybe if you play on a Series X or even an Xbox One X it will perform better. But almost every 30 to 45 minutes the game just crashes. No warning, nothing, just shuts down. Luckily the game does autosave but I found it did not auto-save enough. I found myself saving quite often after I accomplished crafting a new weapon or gathering a hard-to-find resource to avoid losing progress. My first impression of getting thrusted into the gameplay was this reminds me a bit of Breath of Wild, with a dash of Pokemon and some building mechanics that remind me of Fortnite. My son said it was like Minecraft with a bunch of mods installed. The way they do tutorials is kind of interesting. Essentially you have quests where they group together tasks to teach you the basics of the game. And there are random NPCs you can talk to that give you tips but seem pretty useless. As you complete those quests you get experience and can start spending skill points. The skill points are really what help your character progress and unlock new moves, more powers, and better weapons.Sail Forth

Right now some of the perks/skills you can unlock are not yet implemented. Which I think is kind of cool to let you know that the devs are thinking ahead. There isn’t much unique to the Craftopia crafting. It works very similarly to most other crafting genre games. You gather the necessary requirements and go into a crafting menu to start with basic items. Then you build a workbench and can increase the complexity. As you level up and build more items you can build an altar to advance your technological age. It doesn’t take much work for you to go from only being able to build a wooden stick and a campfire to building machines to help auto harvest wheat and conveyor belts. Building structures has its ups and downs. I like how everything snaps into place really easily. But the building system is set you can start just building a ramp that goes into the sky with no support. This might be the developer’s intention but is very strange at first. The combat in Craftopia is lacking. It’s a hack and slash style but your strikes can be really erratic. It could be that I just suck at the game so far but hitting enemies was almost a pain. Luckily the AI at this point is trash. In the first dungeon, I entered I just stood back and shot the enemy with arrows. They never once acknowledged I was even hurting them. They had some basic set movements and once I went into melee they retaliated. The enemies seem to respawn at a rather quick rate. I cleared a room and within seconds the enemies had already started to respawn.

Breeding.

Combat is also used to harvest deer, bears, sheep, cows, elephants, giraffes, and other animals for resources. Most will run from you once you start attacking, but they will soon run into a wall or a rock or tree and stop running. It is rather disappointing. The first boss that I battled was a joke. Maybe the game was taking it easy or maybe I was over-leveled when I fought him. But I barely took any damage and he was incredibly easy to defeat. And the enemy respawns so quickly the boss respawned before I left the room so I defeated him a second time to get the extra loot. When this game first came out, it seemed to have potential. You can craft a large variety of items, from building blocks to breeding machines and robots. The combat was interesting, the best being the Ice magic that literally throws your friends if it hits them lol The dragons were tough to beat and the boost for gliding speed was cool too. AND you can light ANYTHING on fire. Fantastic! But it very quickly ran out of content. Every dungeon had the same boss, the trials were minimal and the enemies went from hard to juvenile after a few levels. There wasn’t much of a story and you can’t progress past a certain point because the content isn’t there. On top of that, after crafting a few different buildings, the game slows to a crawl with lag. The worst was the warps between several small maps and though there was plenty of maps, there were only 8 designs, so most of them were the same anyway. When I heard the “Seamless Map” update was coming, I was pumped!

I really wanted to see where this game could go and being able to explore freely without warps would be awesome! And having more content and being able to progress further would be amazing as well. Its been nearly two years since then and barely any new content has been added. I think they added a few new bosses, but nothing worth picking the game up. I still can’t go any further in the game. The devs are actively working on a pocket monster rip off instead of sticking to the zelda rip off they already released. This is almost like No Man’s Sky, which released and wasn’t up to par, but the development team worked hard to release massive updates that made the game awesome. Craftopia released and had potential, but instead of being polished and taken care of, it was abandoned for the next game idea. They say “Thank you for the support!” but as this point, I can’t support this game. The more they release videos of pal world or craftopia, I see they are highly lacking in creativity. Some designs are far to similar to other games and it’s deplorable to say the least. Even the combat and boss mechanics are straight from Breath of the Wild and the newest update preview features Bokoblin with smoother faces. With their new game set to release in 2023, I wouldn’t be surprised if Craftopia was completely abandoned and the new game would take priority. And even then, after what I have seen with this game, why would I want to jump on their next game only to find out that too has been abandoned for their next rip off? If the “Seamless Map” ever becomes reality, I will be picking this game back up for sure. Hopefully the update comes with a story and new bosses and more ages to progress through. One can only fight the same boss on repeat for so long.
