Serious Sam 4 Free Download GAMESPACK.NET Nostalgia is a hell of a drug. And like all drugs, it can be dangerous to become reliant on it. Serious Sam, I think you have a problem and need an intervention. Sure, 2011’s Serious Sam 3 felt like a goofy throwback to a simpler time, but in 2020 Serious Sam 4’s brand of non-stop run-and-gun shooting feels downright archaic. It layers on a few new ideas like dual wielding and a skill tree, at least, but while Doom has reinvented itself for modern times, Serious Sam seems to revel in neither moving forward nor backward. It’s just kind of strafing to the side. For whatever reason, there’s a story that attempts to justify all the weird carnage you’ll cause, and it’s just as much of a jumble as the battles. We get a series of stiffly animated cutscenes in which Sam Stone and his military buddies fight to overthrow an alien overlord in Europe by… finding the Holy Grail, because why not? I love a good pun more than most, and this wore thin pretty quickly. Every once in a while a decent gag lands, but just as often the script will inexplicably turn completely serious with no punchlines to it and it feels bizarrely out of place. The actual gameplay boils down to moving from one giant, largely empty arena to the next, each time fighting enemy horde after enemy horde with an arsenal of straightforward, mostly unimaginative weaponry. Three types of shotgun, and assault rifle and two miniguns, two sniper rifles, a rocket launcher, a grenade launcher… almost none of it feels remotely distinctive. The only gun that feels like it has a real personality to it is the returning Cannon Ball, which is absurdly powerful and fires with different velocities depending on how long your charge up a shot, and if you just roll one out it’ll bowl over multiple enemies and roll around on hills. For such a zany game you’d expect a lot more crazy weaponry like that and fewer off-the-shelf firearms. I will give Serious Sam 4 this much, though: the sheer variety of monsters you fight is insane in more ways than one. It’s a hodgepodge of dozens of different types.

The first thing was Sam himself who was your standard wise-cracking bad-ass in the Duke Nukem style but the main thing was how the game built up in intensity, starting off feeling like a fairly straightforward Doom clone but ending up as just an absolute spectacle of total madness. We’ve not kept up with the Serious Sam games but that first one lives long in the memory. You play as Serious Sam Stone who leads a unit in the Earth Defense Force who are protecting the planet from forces led by Mental, an extraterrestrial overlord who wants to destroy humanity. There’s not much point trying to explain the plot beyond that but it is worth noting that this is a prequel to the third game and the second game was a prequel to the first, so god knows how this all falls into place. In Serious Sam 4 you start off in Rome where you are trying to find the Ark of the Covenant which turns out to be a powerful alien artifact that might be able to stop Mental and you’ve got a small squad of soldiers with you. It all goes to hell pretty quickly though and so its up to you to get through the game’s fifteen chapters and hunt down Mental (well, as much as you can, this is a prequel after all).

EXPLOSIVE ARSENAL.

Your squad is really just there to give someone Sam to wisecrack at although they do occasionally get involved in combat but, for the most part, you’re really on your own. Thankfully though, this is a Serious Sam game and so you’ve got the arsenal you need. Sam gets pistols, shotguns, rifles, grenade launchers, rockets and more with which to take on the aliens as well as gadgets such as decoys, healing packs and time-dilation devices. Having jumped from the first game to this one without really spending any time with the others, it is interesting to see where the series has gone. The first game was set in rather plain arenas that were just absolute filled with just a stupid amount of enemies. In this game though, you get more of a linear FPS type of level design with specific paths and alleys to go through that link up larger areas. This makes the game feel much more traditional as a campaign-based FPS. The great thing about the series is how you’ll face off against a bunch of regular enemies and then a boss character will show up but then later in the game those bosses will turn up in large numbers.Garden Paws Switch NSP

There will be a bigger boss awaiting you, and so on and so on until you’ve got all of them chasing after you, acting like regular enemies. In the first game this was so effective. We fondly remember being chased by giant minotaurs while a huge spaceship flew overhead. In this game, it’s not quite as impressive but the action is fairly non-stop and intense. This isn’t a game that’s all that concerned with emotive storytelling and is instead more about carnage and on that level, Serious Sam 4 works really well. There’s something just so satisfying about mowing down a horde of enemies with a minigun or doing the traditional running backwards maneuver while shooting out rockets. There’s not much here that will win any awards for originality but the game does have some nice set-pieces that really make for some interesting changes of pace, such as a decent mech section. The game needs it though because with fifteen levels, all clocking in at around twenty minutes, you can definitely have too much of a good thing, especially when that good thing is fairly basic shooting action with AI that is basically no more sophisticated than ‘move from here to where Sam is.

Serious Sam 4 does a simple thing but does it quite well and so in terms of the gameplay we can’t complain too much and as long as it’s fun, which it is, then that’s all good. Our issues with the game are more technical in nature. Given that it’s a PS5-only effort, we really don’t expect to be sat in lengthy loading screens. There’s just no excuse for it. Also, the two graphics modes (performances vs. fidelity) both struggle with frame rates a little and both suffer from severe texture pop-in. Humanity is under siege as the full force of Mental’s hordes spread across the world, ravaging what remains of a broken and beaten civilization. I was avoiding this game for some time due to technical issues when the game came out, but now it´s alright, I think. The only bad thing I can say are the dialogs and the art style of the human NPC. I understand they wanted to try make it more grandios and Epic story with comedy/drama etc. Unfortunately, it ended, I hate to say it, cringe… Sam himself is as amazing as usual. His teammates, on the other hand, are really Really annoying. And the Motion capture animation is awkward and the movement of the NPC is lifeless and akward. I still do recommend this game if you are fan of The Serious Sam series. Just don´t let the dialog get under your skin  Graphics are solid (nothing special) but still good for this sort of game because if youve played previous games…this was never about graphical detail other than guns and they look good. It’s a serious sam game which means over the top action, dumba*** one liners and corny jokes and lost and LOTS of action. If you like to kill hundreds of enemies in one go, this is for you, if you play for story..maybe not. This is a gun-play oriented game through and through so do whith that what you will.Inside Jennifer
