It’s a gloriously brilliant game. Very decisive and technical, but also it’s like playing Miyazaki’s Spirited Away Meets Street Fighter IV. Super-gorgeous and original art, and the attacks and animations are absolutely exhilarating! Had to try Espeth (new character) out ASAP and she is wonderful! Quickly ran into Faust (also new) in Arcade mode, and the battle had resonance with Nakoruru vs. Gen-An in Samurai Shodown. It is in that way a very literate summation of the genre, while still being entirely its own, unique thing. Plus, like SSB on WiiU….. so many modes! And the characterizations and back story are fresh, solid, and entertaining, without at all interfering with the core of the game. I could barely wait for its release! Downloaded and played and made me late for work this morning even though I tried my best to stop ASAP. 🙂

If you aren’t prejudiced against the 2D core design (which I think is far more interesting for gameplay than having to navigate around the ambiguities of 3D space in this genre), it’s an absolute must-have, in my opinion. Honestly IMO guilty gear functions very well on an intuitive level. It’s not like Virtua Fighter where if you don’t know what you’re doing your character just looks like a moron punching the air and you get rocked…. you can ‘just play’ without worrying about memorizing combo strings and you will learn your character and his/her flow and can become pretty good that way. Only reason you need to look up combo strings and practice things like Force Roman Cancels is if you want to take your game to the next level. It’s extremely fun fighting local with a bunch of buddies who are around the same level. Just FYI you might get rocked online though 🙂 Air Missions: HIND Switch XCI
