I liked the innovations made in how needs are met (like entertainment, etc) which are done through a rating rather than a strict radius, that rewards proper spacing but does allow for janky stacking and grouping of identical needs to satisfy houses on the other side of the map. I loved the idea of inter-connected islands, and I loved the aesthetic. The stock market and different regions are excellent. I’d say the highlight feature is the endgame – I absolutely adore the trading floors and synth houses, which allows you to reach absurd population levels with a totally max level city, with no low level workers. The special map projects are pretty cool and drive progression well, from finding old bits of 2070 tech to finding the synth technology, it does well to give goals for each area. The lack of randomised maps, lack of factions or choice in city building, and lack of free play/continuous mode (in the traditional sense, you can continue the campaign indefinitely), makes the game a lot less replay able. The campaign is identical every time and there are set optimised ways to play the game and strategies that are simply better. From what I’ve heard if you know what you’re doing, the hardest settings on veteran difficulty is barely challenging. Once you reach the moon and get basically unlimited power through fusion energy, the game becomes trivial. You can mass spam people and your profits go through the roof. You can very easily buy out the other companies and make absurd profits. The endgame satellite space building system is a neat idea but the mechanics are weird and lead to very stagnant designs.
