The loop of the gameplay is basically this: you reach a beam of light and activate a relic that starts a short puzzle. You need to solve it within the time given, and if you fail you can try it again unlimited times. These puzzles are usually very similar; they involve shooting generic enemies, often protecting innocent civilians from them. In several missions I had to track down the impostor (obvious reference to Among Us) before he killed the civilian. In another one I had to protect Elon Musk’s rocket from some missiles, and even protect Mark Zuckerberg from Trump while listening at his low quality recorded speech that I doubt developers held any right for commercial use. The only thing that make these tasks somehow interesting is the time manipulation power; other than this, puzzles feel very futile and repetitive. As you can see the humor contained can often be very childish and thus not suitable for everyone.

Every time you fail you will get the message “Game Over Dude!” with a goofy voice and, while I’m not extra sensitive to gender debates, I must say that a simple “game over” would have been more than enough. Graphically the game is decent enough and runs without any problem, but I constantly had the feeling of being inside a prototype of a game running through Unreal Engine viewport. The level design is quite empty and assets seem like being randomly mixed together after purchasing them off the UE marketplace. The Traveler is quite an exceptional character, not only because of his daring and curious personality, but also owing to his unique special power. He can slow down time to a halt and resume it at will! This ability will come in handy as Timerunner’s main mechanic; you can use it to your advantage in a variety of ways – dispatching opponents, moving through the game’s world, and solving puzzles, among others. Beware though – time manipulation is no easy feat and you have only so much energy at your disposal. If you run out, you will have no choice but to release time back into its natural flow and face whatever awaits you in it!Mini Ninjas
