Shatter Remastered Deluxe Switch NSP Free Download GAMESPACK.NET Holy hot darn, Shatter Remastered Deluxe is a great-looking game. Back when I played the original on PlayStation 3, I remember being blown away by how stylish and sleek it looked and having playing this remake, I must say that it has held up wonderfully. Not only that, the visuals have been revamped with 120 frames per second and 4k resolution (depending on which console you’re playing on) and it looks absolutely phenomenal. Also, I appreciate the unambiguity of everything as fast-paced arcade-style games are sometimes difficult to follow yet everything generally remains easy to quickly decipher here. With all of this out of the way, let’s get to the gameplay!  Shatter Remastered Deluxe may look like a typical brick-breaker on the surface but it features many clever gameplay elements that make it stand out. For starters, you can hold the shoulder triggers to either blow or suck from your paddle which can help redirect the ball, suck in energy for your power gauge, and even make some blocks float where you want them to go. Thankfully, the ball has a clear path shown ahead of it so you can steer it intuitively by blowing and sucking but it’s still not an easy game. You also have special abilities such as the powerful Shard Storm ability that uses a full energy meter to shoot a barrage of shards at the playfield. There are power-ups, too, and a shield that you can combine with sucking to deflect shards back. It may sound like a lot but it’s all very intuitive. With all of these mechanics in place and the fact that playfields can be oriented vertically, horizontally, or even in a circle; you may imagine that achieving high scores will be an exciting feat and it certainly is. Now, Shatter Remastered Deluxe doesn’t do a particularly good job of explaining how to score higher which is kind of a bummer as you’ll have to figure everything out on your own. This is especially frustrating because there are a lot of elements to keep in mind such as the Multiball mechanic where you can deploy extra balls which double as lives for more points and there’s a score multiplier that increases as you suck in shards. However, that multiplier decreases as blocks cross your line but you can earn points when you collide with them using the shield. You can also achieve combos by destroying blocks in rapid succession but it’s advised to only do so after you build your multiplier up.

Finally, there are end-level bonuses and you get more points for how quickly you beat bosses. See? It’s super-complicated so I wish there was more instruction. The main campaign of Shatter Remastered Deluxe contains 10 worlds with a boss at the end of each and a total of 71 levels. On top of that, you can attempt Endless and Time Attack modes with optional co-op variations, Bonus mode where you can practice the tricky bonus rounds, and Boss Rush mode. Needless to say, climbing the leaderboards is excellent fun no matter which mode you decide to play and there is a lot of content to master for sure. I’m #4 on the leaderboard right now for Story mode so try and beat me! Even though Shatter Remastered Deluxe is a wonderful old-school arcade-style brick-breaker that I highly recommend, it definitely gets frustrating from time to time. For starters, some of the bosses are perplexing when you first face them and require a great deal of experimentation in order to take down. Also, I know I said that Shatter Remastered Deluxe is graphically unambiguous yet some levels are simply too chaotic; specifically, the ones with lots of explosions as blocks will fly everywhere uncontrollably Brick breakers have been a staple of gaming since the early days, and the formula hasn’t really changed since. You’re presented with a wall of colourful bricks and it’s up to you to guide a ball into each one, destroying them until the level is clear. But what happens when a developer decides that isn’t enough? Shatter originally launched in 2009, but now the mobile update from earlier this year is coming to consoles as Shatter Remastered Deluxe. Just like the original, it’s not content with giving you a normal brick-breaking experience. There are a number of game modes: time attack, boss rush, and endless. Many even feature co-op, but let’s focus on the 70+ level story mode. Things start normally enough with classic style Breakout levels, but as you progress, the types of bricks you encounter rapidly increase. Some multiply when hit, some are immune to lasers, and others rapidly change the direction your ball is travelling in.

The list goes on and on. Additionally, the actual shapes of levels begin to change too; some have rounded fields of play that hearken back to games like Tempest, while others still have horizontal orientations. These changes of pace are most welcome, even if once you’re about halfway through the story, it feels like the same few level types keep getting recycled. But ultimately the game provides a genuinely refreshing approach to the genre. Nowhere is this more evident than in boss fight. These encounters require unique approaches, and the use of one of the game’s most interesting features: suck and blow. Your machine has the ability to“suck tiles and objects in the world in towards you, as well as blow them away. It’s an interesting feature for a brick breaker, and it breeds sheer chaos. If you get hit by the bricks you draw in, you lose control of your paddle for a few seconds, and if you aren’t careful wielding your power, you can essentially draw the entire map in at you all at once. It’s total lunacy, and it’s brilliant. It may not have been on many people’s “eagerly anticipated holiday releases”, but we were looking forward to Shatter Remastered Deluxe by PikPok quite a lot.Hard West 2

Out now for consoles and PC, we checked out the PlayStation 5 version. The original Shatter was part of the first wave of digital-only releases for consoles, back in the PS3/Xbox 360 days, and we remember it as one of the best. And while the majority of games are digital-only these days, we were glad to see this little gem make a comeback well over a decade later with an updated version that retains all of the content and gameplay but adds a host of technical upgrades. What Shatter did so well back in the way was reinvent a formula that was pioneered and popularized by games like Breakout and Arkanoid three to four decades ago: the brick breaker, where you use a paddle to bounce a ball up at a wall of bricks in order to break them down, while making sure said ball doesn’t pass by you and become lost. Shatter lets you enjoy its gameplay through a handful of different modes, including support for two-player co-op gameplay. The star attraction is the game’s story mode though, which features 71 well designed levels that gradually introduce new brick types and behaviors, but most importantly they become very creative from a level design point of view.

While many levels have a traditional Arkanoid-like layout, others have a rounded look and file, and every few levels you’ll run into an actual boss fight. Those boss fights are some of the most unique elements of Shatter, and require a careful approach – one that often includes using the game’s ‘suck’ and ‘blow’ mechanics, what essentially means that you can suck bricks towards you and blow them away. This doesn’t destroy them (and they can hurt you if they come too close), but it does turn them into useful projectile weapons if used well against a boss. What made Shatter fun over a decade ago is still fun today, and it’s never looked and sounded better either. On the right set, the game now supports 4K resolutions running at 120 frames per second, with a soundtrack that’s been redone with support for 5.1 surround setups. Shatter managed to feel nostalgic and fresh at the same time, and at its price point it’s an easy recommendation. I will request a refund. The game is a mobile backport with all its drawbacks. They called the mobile version Remastered. In the UI there are no back/cancel buttons in the game over screen, because you are supposed to use your phone touch controls for those. Sometimes art is divisive, but the low-poly style here feels not like a free artistic choice, but was a technical necessity for the mobile edition. It really is the same objects with less polygons. You can easily tell by the red shield blocks which look simply worse, not just different. There are less special effects on block hit as if you turned the settings down.

This makes a huge impact. The old version is so much more satisfying I cannot understate the effect it has. I want my arcade games to be flashy and if not, let me turn down the settings. The octopus boss has so much better translucency effects that I thought for a moment they could re-release the old Shatter as a Remastered Remaster. Shield is now a seperate gauge from the shards, but the gameplay impact is miniscule. Controller has, just like the original, a lack of controller sensitivity settings, but here it is worse. The old one was too slow, this one is usually just right, but if you have a circular stage it becomes completely twitchy. Shatter Remastered Deluxe seems to be a little easier than the original. It’s much more generous with extra balls and the achievement list isn’t as demanding as it once was. That’s not really a flaw so much as an observation though, the OST is just as fantastic as it was back in 2009 and the new lick of paint is beautifully vibrant. Shatter is still the queen of breakout clones (overly-reductive as the phrase is) and I’d recommend it to anyone in a heartbeat. It’s not a bad idea to grab the remaster and, if it’s a little too easy for you, grab the original after the fact since it’s only $2 at the time of writing and should challenge you a bit more.
