More than 250 base buildings

First of all, to people who are wondering if this is another City Skyline, the answer is no. The gameplay is much more similar to Anno where you have to deal with a lot of production chains. The game does have some vibe of city skyline, you can see the game as Anno-Modern city. I think this is a nice indie game and I recommend it to city builder lovers. However, I don’t recommend it to gamers who enjoy optimizing logistics. This is certainly not a game similar to transport fever 2, factorio, or any other games heavily focused on logistics and transportation. The game has nothing to optimize in terms of logistics. Every good produced will be carried to a portal where they are magically teleported to a single virtual warehouse. Instead of transporting the goods from place A to B, you can take or send the goods from/to the warehouse anywhere at any time on the map. You will never have to worry about the traffic and logistics simply because of that. I do not know if the dev will address this issue in the future version, but I am afraid this is already a core mechanics that will not be changed. The game is decent for early access, it is like a new version of Sim city. You can even drive around your city in vehicle and look at everything close up. Graphics are good. If you liked Sim City then I would certainly check this game out. You can even go to real world areas like New York to build your city. I hope they continue on this game for a long time and make it great. Aquarist Switch NSP

Ridiculously addictive game! The city builder I’ve been waiting for. Certainly worth a buy, please support the dev so they continue to update this game since it has unlimited potential. This is NOT a Cities Skyline 2.0 and is not trying to be, this game is a whole different beast and a different genre of game from Cities Skyline all together, focusing on taking your small village to a thriving metropolis through resource management. Think of it as Sim City meets Anno. Another analogy, Cities Skyline is like Minecraft creative mode where you can build whatever city you want with no pressure and relatively fast, this game is like survival mode where you need to gather resources and slowly build up your city and nothing could be more satisfying and addicting. The dev team is also small but are fast with patches and bug fixes and are very communicative with the community on the discord. This is a game worth supporting all the way through, and for the price of a movie ticket you get your money’s worth 10x over even at the early access stages of the game. I really wanted this concept of a game to play well too. I favor city builders and have a lot of them. There’s been a deluge of this type so it’s been nice. Especially when the company tries different concepts. This one is doing that, but the bugs were so bad that I could not even finish the tutorial.

5 different population classes

But if you are looking for a nice game out of the box, you will find it here.Even if there are of course still places where it can improve. However, I am very confident there, considering the update history and the comparison of just a few months ago.Compared to other Early Access games I have played, it is amazing how many, and extensive updates this game gets in a short time.If you have any problems, the communication is an A/1+ for me. Because the developers are friendly and helpful in their Discord, no matter how hard your problem or crazy your idea is. I have not been used to this in the Early Access area before.Do you like Anno? Do you like City Skylines Do you like building games with a sense behind the build? Then this is the game you are looking for!Firstly, this is not a city builder. At least not in the sense of Skylines or Simcity. This is instead a logistics game closer to an Anno or even something like Factorio. There are no mass transit options, citizens are not really simulated beyond tracking their generalised needs and though there is money its a much smaller consideration than the other resources. Instead the game is very much about production queues. Get lumber to get wood to get furniture to build a clay pit to build bricks to build a etc. The simulation is built around carriers, essentially warehouses that spawn lorries to fetch and swap resources between production buildings. It feels unresponsive. You can build your warehouse right next to your brick yard and it will sit there fully loaded for in game weeks waiting for the carrier to collect it. It can also be painfully slow starting, your lumber yards taking in game months to produce enough wood for your first residential area where each square takes 2 wood. With no real fail states higher difficulties just makes this start take even longer. Likewise I recommend enabling Sandbox mode as the very slow rate of population growth will really drag those milestones out. However, once set up the game becomes an enjoyable resource management game letting things tick along and grow fairly organically.

More than one million inhabitants per city

The number of resources means there are always new things to work towards and sporadic placements of natural resources makes each city feel unique. Although there is no mass transit and citizens seem to be mostly decorative there is still a degree of road planning and traffic management needed. Improved pathfinding appears three times on the upcoming roadmap so this aspect may become more detailed over the coming months. It is still an early access game and made by a very small, possibly one man, team. Despite this the game looks pretty good. Its clearly taking advantage of the tech advances since Skylines with a higher level geometry and lighting than that game and there is an excellent amount of visual variety in buildings. It also has a built in detailer akin to Planet Coaster’s. Though I didn’t use it much it was easy to build a cosy cafe with the base components. On the downside some ugly texture tiling can detract at the closest zoom level Arcade Paradise Switch NSP

So Highrise City isn’t really what I wanted but what it is is a very in depth and enjoyable logistics chain game. I fear it may be mismarketed as a city builder and I feel there are a lot of potential fans who may miss out on an enjoyable builder which has some great potential for modding and modelling. If nothing else I am happy to have supported a passionate developer making their own spin on the genre.Highrise City was released on March 24th, 2022 as a so-called Early Access version. So the game is not finished yet. There are still bugs, problems, and gaps in the design and gameplay. So if you expect a perfect game, you should rather wait a few more months and then take another look. The developers use the feedback, bug reports, suggestions, and ideas of the early players to further develop and improve the project, and thus adapt it even more to the wishes of the fans.

Highrise City is already quite extensive at this early stage, runs stable for the most part, and already has quite a lot of game content. It doesn’t feel like you’re just playing a demo version that will eventually or maybe never be finished. There are certainly negative examples of Early Access games around, but Highrise City is not one of them. The developers accept player feedback via Discord or Steam. And there have already been several patches after release to fix bugs and updates that brought new features.Speaking of developers, Highrise City was conceived, developed, and programmed by a solo developer for several years. Only shortly before release, the indie project was supported by the German company Deck13, which is best known for The Surge 1 and 2. But for a few years now, Deck13 has also acted as a publisher for smaller studios. Through this collaboration, the game now has multiple programmers and also additional artists for models, sounds, and other content. This should certainly be good for the overall quality of further development.
